About

The European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) was established in 1999 and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. EURETINA has grown to more than 1400 members. EURETINA’s 2012 annual meeting, held in Milan, Italy, on September 6-9, was attended by 3800 physicians.

The Society’s goals are to:

  • Establish personal contacts and promote the sharing of knowledge
among European vitreoretinal and macula specialists
  • Stimulate and encourage vitreoretinal and macula research
  • Promote the dissemination of retina-specific knowledge to general ophthalmologists
  • Maintain contact with retinal groups on other continents

EURETINA hopes to improve the exchange of ideas among vitreoretinal specialists in Europe and worldwide and to give them a voice. The Society wants to promote the progress in our subspecialty regarding new diagnostic options, advances in vitreoretinal surgery, the development and application of new drugs, and changes in the treatment of macular degeneration. Other goals include educating young vitreoretinal surgeons, as well as helping develop guidelines in cooperation with vitreoretinal societies worldwide.

EURETINA has an ASRS member on its board and counts many ASRS members in its membership, helping to deepen the relationship of the 2 societies. Goals for this relationship include developing international guidelines or preferred practice patterns (PPP), improving scientific cooperation in multicenter studies, and promoting educational program exchanges.
