Biography

Dr William G Campbell is a graduate of the University of Glasgow, where he obtained a BSc (Honours) in pathology and an MB, ChB medical degree (with Commendation). He completed his ophthalmology registrar training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) in Melbourne in 1985, followed by Fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery, medical retina and ocular oncology in Melbourne, Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and the Tennant Institute in his native Glasgow, before returning to Melbourne in 1988.

Dr Campbell has been a consultant on the Vitreoretinal Unit (VRU) at RVEEH since 1989 and was appointed Head of Unit in 2000. His other RVEEH appointments include Retinal Specialist to the Ocular Oncology Unit since 2000 and a consultant on the Medical Retina Clinic between 1992 and 2000. In private practice he is one of Melbourne Retina Associates.

Dr Campbell is a Fellow of RANZCO and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, International Society of Ocular Oncology, European Vitreoretinal Society and European Society of Retina Specialists. He held the position of Chairman of the Australia and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists from 2008 to 2014.
Dr Campbell is now fully retired from practice.
