Biography
RICHARD S. MUNSEN, JR, MD, received his MD with Honors from the University of Iowa in 1972. He served in the United States Air Force as a physician, stationed in Thailand for one year and at McChord AFB in Tacoma for one year. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Michigan, followed by a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Iowa. He was in private practice in Seattle at Swedish Hospital from 1980 until 2006, and was the founding partner of Vitreoretinal Associates in Seattle. He was appointed to the faculty of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Washington as Clinical Assistant Professor in 2006, and promoted to Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology in 2009. Dr. Munsen’s subspecialty in ophthalmology is vitreoretinal diseases and surgery.
Memberships: American Academy of Ophthalmology (Fellow), American Society of Retinal Specialists, Washington Academy of Physicians and Surgeons, King County Medical Society, Washington Medical Association.
Honors: Best Doctors in America from 2000-2016 when he retired, Teaching Award from Ophthalmology Residents at University of Washington, 2007.
