Biography

Dr. Garcia-Aguirre graduated with high honors in 2002 from the Tecnológico de Monterrey School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Mexico. Afterwards, he spent a year doing a research undergrad at the Association for the Prevention of Blindness in Mexico (Asociación para Evitar la Ceguera en México), where he would also earn his degree in Ophthalmology and Retina fellowship. After concluding his fellowship, he was appointed attending physician at the retina department in the same hospital, where he has been doing clinical, surgical, academic and research work up until this day. He has also been working in two of the most respected retina private practices in Mexico City ever since.

Dr. Garcia-Aguirre is author or coauthor of more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 30 book chapters, and editor of 4 books. He has been assistant editor for the Mexican Journal of Ophthalmology since 2017, and has been appointed National Investigator Level 1 by the Mexican Council of Science and Technology. He is certified by the Mexican Board of Ophthalmology, and is member of the Mexican Society of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the PanAmerican Association of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists and the Mexican Retina Association, among others. He has served in the board of the Mexican Retina Association as secretary, treasurer, and president.
