Biography
Paolo Antonio S. Silva, MD is Staff Ophthalmologist and Co-Chief of Telemedicine at the Beetham Eye Institute of the Joslin Diabetes Center. He also holds an academic appointment as an associate professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. He has been awarded the Young Clinician Award from the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology and Eleanor and Miles Shore 50th Anniversary Fellowship Program for Scholars in Medicine from Harvard Medical School.
Dr Silva’s work is focused on ultimately eliminating visual loss from diabetic retinal complications. Dr. Silva has led clinical validation studies on ultrawide field and other novel retinal imaging devices, retinal image analysis and clinical outcome evaluation for diabetic retinal disease. Dr. Silva actively directs the efforts of the Joslin Vision Network, an innovative ocular telehealth program for diabetic retinopathy, with the ultimate goal of delivering the highest quality of diabetes eye care and promoting collaborative research that is free from disparities induced by geographic, political, or cultural boundaries.
