Biography
Dr Jayant Kumar is a renowned Vitreo-retina specialist in Jharkhand, India, who is known for handling
complicated retinal surgeries with exceptional results. He recently made the Jharkhand ophthalmology
fraternity proud by winning the best vitreo-retina surgery award at the prestigious international film
festival award at All India ophthalmological society conference 2023, held at Kochi, which brought him
national glory. He is one of the few specialists in Jharkhand, who can successfully screen and treat
retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) cases of any grade, including laser treatment and surgical treatment.
He also has vast experience in complicated and difficult cataract
cases. His surgical work has been well appreciated in
various national and international forums, and he is especially known for his surgical innovations.
He has been recognised as an innovator by the scientific committee of All India ophthalmic society and
has been invited to deliver talks on his innovations multiple times. On his long venture of around 6
years at the retina department of Aravind Eye hospital, Madurai, he got ample learning opportunities
and was also a part of the team getting a novel retinal surgical technique 'The Mega Weiss Ring’
published and recognised internationally.
He is a recipient of the best video award of Retina Summit 2017 organised by Shankar Netralaya,
Chennai and has been a finalist in various paper and video presentations in national and international
conferences, time and again.
He has become a national faculty since the last two years and is now actively involved in training young
retina surgeons from across the country through many of his instruction courses, and his recent role as
chief instructor was well appreciated by many eminent national faculties.
