Biography
Dr. Scott Shuldiner graduated magna cum laude from Tufts University with a BS in Biology, where he was a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship. He went on to earn his MD from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He was a Doris Duke International Clinical Research Fellow, and as such performed translational research on HIV-associated myocardial fibrosis at University of Cape Town School of Medicine in Cape Town, South Africa. While in South Africa, he volunteered as a predoctoral medical officer at Khayelitsha District Hospital Trauma Unit, one of the busiest trauma centers in the world. Additionally, he participated in a research internship in medical device development and innovation at the Society of Interventional Radiology, and was named co-inventor on a patent disclosure for a “smart port” for hemodialysis. He received a Society of Interventional Radiology Medical Student Research Award. As a laboratory member in the Department of Oncology at Johns Hopkins, he developed a DNA methylation based assay to non-invasively monitor prostate cancer burden, as well as treatment effectiveness, using cell-free plasma and urine specimens from patients undergoing radiation therapy.
After medical school, he completed his internship at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, followed by his first year as a resident of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. His work has been published in journals such as Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Human Genetics, and Pharmacogenetics and Genomics. He has presented his work nationally, including giving the Main Podium Talk at the 2017 Fulbright China and East Asia Pacific Symposium hosted by the US Department of State.
