Biography
Jeffrey J. Tan, MD majored in business administration at the Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Tan then went on to earn his medical degree at Boston University. Afterwards he completed his ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, where he served as chief resident and received the Kings County resident of the year award and the Richard C. Troutman award for academic excellence.
He aims to advance the field as a physician-scientist and surgical innovator. For his work, he has been awarded the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO) research award and the SUNY Downstate research award. He has published in multiple journals and book chapters, and has won the annual Vit-Buckle Society fellows surgical award two years in a row. Dr. Tan is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, and Chinese American Medical Society. He is fluent in Mandarin and knows medical Spanish.
His personal interests include basketball, golf, skiing, and audiophile equipment.
