Biography

Dr. Hutchins is an Associate Professor at the University College of Medicine and a member of Eye Care Partners. He served for more than two decades as the Director of the Retina Service in the UC Department of Ophthalmology. He was the co-founder of a vitreo-retinal fellowship program in 2003 that successfully straddled the UC Department of Ophthalmology and Cincinnati Eye Institute (now ECP). This two-year fellowship evolved to become a highly competitive program that draws many applicants from all over the US each year.

Dr. Hutchins is a vitreo-retinal specialist who has been practicing in the Cincinnati region since 1987. He received his medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago, and completed all his post medical school training in the Boston area: internship at Mt. Auburn Hospital, residency at Tufts, and retina fellowship at MEEI. His expertise covers the entire spectrum of vitreo-retinal conditions some of which include complex retinal detachment, retinal vascular disorders, macular interface disease, macular degenerative disorders, posterior inflammatory disease, and posterior segment trauma.

While Dr. Hutchins values his active clinical and surgical practice, he gains the most satisfaction from training ophthalmology residents and vitreo-retinal surgical fellows.
