Biography

Dr. Michael Lai is a physician with the Retina Group of Washington (RGW), the largest retina practice in the United States and an affiliate of Prism Vision Group (PVG). He currently serves as a Medical Director for RGW, is a member of the PVG Board of Directors, and heads the finance committee for the PVG Physician Leadership Council.

Dr. Lai received his BA in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California at Berkeley. He continued his education at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he earned both his MD and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Medicine. His post-doctoral training included a Department of Medicine internship at the Massachusetts General Hospital, a residency in Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and a fellowship with Associated Retinal Consultants in Michigan.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Lai is active in research, education, and advocacy. He served as the Director of Clinical Research at RGW and Co-Director of the combined Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship program at Georgetown/Washington Hospital Center/RGW. He formerly chaired the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) Federal Affairs Committee and co-chaired the Fellowship Directors’ Education and Training Committee. He is currently a member of the ASRS Board of Directors and the Chair of ASRS Health Economics Committee.
