Biography

Dr. Elizabeth Richter joined the Retina Associates of Sarasota (now Retina Group of Florida) after completing her two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at the renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA in Los Angeles, California.

As a native of the southeast, she is an engineer-trained retina surgeon originally from Georgia. She earned dual undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering (summa cum laude) from Georgia Institute of Technology and biology from Emory University, and her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the Medical College of Georgia.

Dr. Richter then completed her surgical internship and ophthalmology residency at Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, South Carolina, then vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA.

She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, an inaugural member of the American Retina Forum, and is a Fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists (FASRS). In the last decade, she has been active in many clinical trials on Retinal Stem Cell Transplantation, MacTel Type 2 CNTF Implants, Age-Related Macular Degeneration Treatments, and with Diabetic Retinopathy Trials (DRCR Retina Network).

Her free time is spent enjoying family activities with her two young boys and husband Mike; they enjoy participating in many of the outdoor adventures that Florida offers year-round.
