Biography
Dr. Wilkes was born in Boston, Massachusetts but raised in Atlanta, Georgia. His undergraduate education was at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia where he received a degree in Molecular Biology and graduated with honors in 2003. He went to medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University school of medicine, graduating in 2007.
His preliminary medicine internship was at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System where he was a recipient of the Arnold Gold Award for Humanism and Teaching in Medicine. He completed an Ophthalmology Residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Ophthalmology, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. Additional subspecialty training in medical and surgical disease of the retina was undertaken at the Cincinnati Eye Institute associated with University of Cincinnati Department of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Wilkes is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has been practicing in Atlanta for the past several years before relocating to Dayton.
