Biography
Mohamed "Mo" Gendy, M.D., is a fellowship-trained retina specialist and a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and retinal detachment. He joined the Indiana Retina Center after he was practicing in central Illinois for seven years.
He completed three years of residency in Ophthalmology at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago. He then went on for a two-year Surgical Retina Fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, which is one of the most prestigious nationally known fellowships under the teaching of the world-renowned retina specialists including Dr. Judy Kim, the past president of the American Society of Retina Specialists. There, he served as an instructor in ophthalmology, where he was actively involved in ophthalmology resident and medical student education.
Dr. Gendy’s research interests pertain to ocular imaging and clinical trials. He completed two research fellowships at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. He has also published peer-reviewed scientific publications and presented his work at numerous national meetings. He has been involved in several pivotal clinical trials where he was an investigator for several phase II and phase III clinical trials for age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema and retinal vein occlusion.
Dr. Gendy is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and a fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS).
