The two-day 23rd Duke Advanced Vitreous Surgery (AVS) Course, founded by Dr. Robert Machemer, is a biennial meeting open to all retina specialists around the world.
The AVS course will showcase the latest in cutting-edge vitreoretinal surgical techniques, use of novel instrumentation and intraoperative visualization technology, as well as strategies to approach the most challenging surgical cases. The main course comprises of a series of lectures and interactive panel discussions lead by distinguished invited speakers from across the world and Duke faculty members. Panel discussions will highlight different approaches in retinal detachment, macular surgery, and diabetic vitreoretinal surgery.
One day prior to the Duke AVS course is the 11th Annual Duke Retina Fellows Advanced Vitreous Surgery (fAVS) Course at the Duke Eye Center. This course is for all North American vitreoretinal surgical, medical retina, uveitis, and some international fellows. Duke fAVS is geared towards first-year fellows who are transitioning into their second year of training.
