Paper/Paper on Demand

One abstract (either Paper/Paper-on-Demand or First Time Phase 2/3 Data Presentation) may be submitted by an ASRS Regular, International, Internationally Trained Ophthalmologists, or Fellow in Training Member as the first author (presenting author). ASRS members may submit either one paper abstract OR one poster abstract. Non-members and Ophthalmology Resident Members may not submit an abstract in this category.

The Program Committee will consider and evaluate all abstracts submitted in this category for presentation as a Paper or Paper-on-Demand. The Program Committee will determine whether a selected abstract will be presented as a paper, expert panel presentation, paper-on-demand, or poster. You may indicate your preference for a "paper-on-demand only" if you do not wish to present at the podium. The Program Committee chooses submissions to be presented as papers on the basis of originality, clinical relevance, comprehensiveness, and as a stimulus for prepared discussion.

Paper Subcategories:

  • Podium Presentation: Presenters in this category will present their papers during the scientific symposia. The Program Committee will determine which submissions will be included as papers versus papers-on-demand.
  • First Time Phase 2 or Phase 3 Data Presentation: The purpose of this category is to assist ASRS members in presenting full-cohort data of important studies, particularly when the data analysis will be later than the general abstract due date of February 10, 2025, but 6 weeks or more before our Annual Meeting that begins July 30, 2025.

Paper-on-demand:

8-minute PowerPoint or Keynote presentations with voice annotation offered to attendees, and later the entire ASRS, via various communication channels including the Society's online portals as an "on-demand" feature.  The presentation will not be given at the podium but rather will be continually available to be viewed and cited as a vitally important part of the educational effort of the Annual Meeting.

  • Format: mp4
Your completed presentation must be received in MP4 format by June 3, 2025Alternative formats will not be accepted.
  • Length: 8 minutes max
  • Screen Recording Tools
Details specifications will be provided upon invitation.

  • Methods:
Describe the study design indicating whether data collection was retrospective or prospective, randomized or non-randomized, masked or non-masked, consecutive or non-consecutive series, etc. Identify number of eyes/patients, inclusion and exclusion criteria, intervention/procedures, and measurements.
  • Results:
Describe outcome measurements with statistical significance, if appropriate.

  • Ophthalmology Resident Members may submit in this category without a member co-author.
  • Non-member physicians and medical students may submit in this category as a first author as long as at least one ASRS member is a co-author. Non-members should log onto their ASRS profile (first time users click "Create an Account") to submit a poster abstract. NOTE: employees and owners of ineligible companies may not submit a poster. Companies that are ineligible to be accredited in the ACCME System (ineligible companies) are those whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients.

Top poster awards— Top 10 Best Poster Awards and the "Most Novel" Poster Award—will be given on-site. We will continue to innovate poster sessions using new formats to significantly increase interactivity and prominence during the poster Q&A session on-site.

NOTE: In addition to your obligatory printed poster to be displayed on-site at the meeting, you are required to submit a brief e-poster using PowerPoint or Keynote by June 9. These will be displayed on the mobile meeting site that is distributed to all attendees. ASRS will provide detailed instructions regarding the formats for printed and electronic posters prior to the meeting.

If the first author (or a co-author) cannot attend the poster session at the meeting, the e-poster will not be posted in the Annual Meeting archives that are available to all members.
