House Excludes Medicare Payment Fix from Stopgap Funding Bill
Today, the US House of Representatives advanced a continuing resolution to fund the government and prevent a shutdown before Friday’s deadline. Despite strong advocacy from ASRS and the entire medical community to modify the bill before it was voted on, House Republican leadership did not add a provision to stop the current 2.8% cut to the Medicare physician fee schedule. The bill is expected to pass the Senate and be signed into law before the end of the week.
Thank you to the hundreds of ASRS members who took quick action to contact Representatives and advocate for this change.
While we were not successful at this point, your collective voices helped amplify the message. As a result, House leadership has indicated a willingness to address the issue in the budget reconciliation package focused on tax cuts and border security currently in development. In addition, Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) has introduced the Bipartisan Health Care Act (S. 891) that includes the payment fix and other health-related provisions that were left out of year-end legislation in December. We will keep you updated.
