ASRS Partners With FEED Project to Promote Eye Health

As part of its Retina 20/20 public education campaign launch, the American Society of Retina Specialists is partnering with the FEED Project, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting hunger and diseases related to malnutrition.
Through a donation to the FEED Nutrients Fund, ASRS has obtained more than 1000 FEED bags, which will be distributed to attendees at the Society’s annual meeting. The FEED Nutrients Fund supports organizations that supply children with essential minerals and nutrients for a healthy lifestyle.
Every day, 21,000 children under the age of 5 die of preventable causes, half of which are due to malnutrition. Vitamin A is a vital component necessary for a healthy immune system and essential for eye development. Each FEED bag will allow for 100 vitamin A tablets to be distributed to children in need.
The FEED project will provide children 2 high-dosage vitamin A tablets a year—a safe, proactive, and cost-effective solution to delivering and minimizing vitamin A deficiency in young children.
This is just one way that ASRS is working to promote eye health.
